Putter Ball
Putter Ball

The Putter Ball has 2 functions.

First is to ensure correct ball position and second is a practice drill.

All of the worlds top teachers and professionals agree, that the two main parts to good posture setup and a consistent stroke, are that the eyes are over or as close to the aim line as possible and that the putter face is square at impact. To achieve this using the Eclipse Putter Ball please follow the instructions below in that order.

1. Eye’s over the aim line.

This position although desired by all teachers, is actually the most effective when using either face balanced or centre shafted putters. You also need to have the back of your head as close to parallel as possible with the ground, this enables the head and eyes to turn to the target whilst keeping the same visual alignment along the length of the aim line. It is probably the only time in golf that having your chin close to, or on your chest is a good idea. Place the Eclipse putter ball on the ground with the large disc on the bottom and the smallest of the three discs uppermost (the ball marker can be put in your bag). Now place your putter face close to the ball edge, flat to the floor with no tilting of the putter head, you do this by not taking your actual grip on the putter, but by holding it lightly in the finger tips of one hand. Keeping the face square, shuffle your feet, body and head into position over the ball, until you see a perfect halo around the disc and ball, again without taking your full grip position. You have to allow your hands and arms to adopt a position where they would naturally hang,In this position now take your grip around the shaft. You may find you hands are in a totally different position to where the grip is on the shaft, if so, it may be advisable to cut the putter to the new length, change the lie angle or a combination of both. The arc of the stroke that you then produce will be very shallow, giving a much lower margin for error and therefore greater consistency. Follow this procedure for every putt as part of a routine, until you feel comfortable with the positions and the visual picture of what you now see. Before playing you can place a ball in line above and below the Eclipse putter ball Rehearse the correct position, move forward to the top ball and make a stroke. Move back to the Eclipse, rehearse again and move back to the lower ball and make a stroke.

2. Putter face square at impact

Remove the smaller of the 2 discs and replace with the disc the same diameter as the base disc. Turn the ball on its side. Set up square to the Eclipse putter ball and discs and make a stroke. You only need a small 2-4 ft putt stoke length, it is not necessary for anything longer. (as it is not a perfectly balanced item). You will instantly feel if you hit the plastic disc first, and the ball may jump off at 45 degrees with a poor stoke. You will also instantly obtain the positive feedback and feel when you hit the ball. When this happens the face of the putter is square at impact.

Is your golf ball round? You may be shocked!

*If it's not round it won't putt true and will not fly straight.

Have you ever noticed that Professional Golfers change their ball every few holes? Why? They know that as they play a ball it will change from its spherical shape to a slightly oval shape. This change is not detectable to the human eye, but an out of shape ball will not fly straight or roll where they aim on the green. So they take no chances, missed fairways and missed putts are the difference between winning and losing.

Black Ring - Mark a perfect centre line on your ball with the supplied Sharpie mini marker for a visual aid on putt and shot alignment.

Green Ring - Check if your ball is round enough to play competitive golf.

Red Ring - Grade your golf balls by roundness between competitive, non competitive and practice only.
